About
“LARKK is a haunting and longing combined”
Danielle McTaggart has a voice that is an unforgettable, lingering haunt. Best known as the lead singer of Juno Award winning duo Dear Rouge, she has won the Western Canadian Music Awards for Pop Artist, Songwriter of the Year, and countless other national accolades for her work. She has toured worldwide and shared the stage with acts like Phantogram, Metric, Vance Joy, and The Beaches.
In the depths of the year 2020, she found a book by American writer Derrick Brown, and loved his unique, fantastical poetry. Derrick’s poems and stories teeter between the surreal, and the desperate. Derrick heard a beautiful longing and desperation in Danielle's voice that would be well-suited for sorrowful songs and they agreed to work together remotely, from Los Angeles and outside of Vancouver BC. Their friendship and 'workship' was born. Derrick is known for touring with David Cross, Cold War Kids, The Afghan Whigs, Helio Sequence, Rival Sons, Eugene Mirman and more.
Together, they crafted a gorgeous elegy to the slow plodding of doubt, the lonely grip of these numb, modern times. LARKK was born as the two crafted an album that would lure fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Patrick Watson, St. Vincent, Big Thief and Weyes Blood.
